Brief
Coleman (1892-1926), known as "Queen Bess" and "Brave Bessie," became the first licensed Black woman pilot in the world after earning her international license in France. Upon returning to the United States, she embarked on a career as a stunt pilot, thrilling audiences at exhibitions across America.
